Fitness Gone Viral!¡

Have you noticed more people diving into the latest fitness trends over the past year? Maybe it’s a friend who suddenly can’t stop posting about their Pilates or spin classes. Or someone joining a run club, signing up for marathons, or even training for Hyrox like they’ve been at it forever.

I bet you a lot of this is influenced by the “fit-fluencers” we all see online—but honestly, I think it’s really dope to see because more people are making health and fitness a priority, and that’s always a win.

Fitness trends aren’t just about staying current. They can spark curiosity, make fitness more approachable, and even lead to long-term healthy habits. With the mix of novelty, community, and accessibility they bring, trends can actually be powerful gateways into real, lasting change.

Recent Studies from Frontiers in Psychology

Recent studies have shown that exposure to fitness-related content on social media have boosted intrinsic motivation, shapes exercise intentions, and ultimately, promotes physical activity through a chain of psychological processes. It highlights how trends––especially those shared by relatable influencers—can safely introduce people toward consistent, healthier lifestyles.

Putting It Into Perspective

My first official half marathon was last October at the LBC Half Marathon. I really started taking running seriously that summer in July, which gave me about three months to train. What surprised me most was how big of a jump it felt going from my usual 4-mile runs to hitting 8 to 10 miles—it was way more challenging than I expected.

Funny enough, around that same time, it felt like everyone and their moms were suddenly getting into running and training for their own races too.

However, what I did learn, though, was that running gave me a new sense of structure and purpose in my training. It also opened my eyes to what I was neglecting—things like stretching regularly, eating to actually fuel my body for performance rather than for looks, and making sure I got enough sleep.

It’s safe to say,

exercise has always had its “trendy” moments—whether it’s running, CrossFit, Pilates, or the newest hybrid class. But trends come and go.

The real questions we should ask ourselves are:

  • Can we turn these fitness trends into lasting weekly habits?
  • And what would it take to make that shift?

I believe the answer lies in aligning those trends with our personal, lifelong health goals.

When we can see beyond the trend and recognize the bigger picture—how it improves how we live, move, and feel—it becomes much more than a passing phase.

For me, running was that cayalyst. It gave me structure, purpose, and awareness I didn’t have before. And I can say with confidence: if you approach it with intention, it can make a big difference in your life too.

If you read to this point, thank you for riding with me thus far.
